May 4th and the RV Park is open

It’s May 5th, 2019 and we’re doing a “soft open” of the RV Park. The “full service sites” (no water yet tho) and access road are dry enough we can let people park in them. Still a little snow left where the plow pile were but even that will be gone in a few days.

Last week we had two days with temps at 70 degrees F! And then it snowed, but not much – just a skiff really. Friday night we had a couple from Switzerland stay with us, and yesterday some people came to tent camp and attend the opening of the Howling Dog (the Farthest North Rock & Roll Bar) just walking distance away from us.

The Elliott Highway is getting a make-over for the first 12 miles, which means road construction right in front of us. Right now we have to wait for a pilot car to leave and get back home! The flaggers are great though, and if they recognize us and there’s no heavy equipment traffic they’ll just waive us out, or in if we’re first in line.

I planted pansy’s in two of my hanging baskets yesterday and hung them off the porch. Nights still drop just below freezing, but pansy’s usually can handle light freezes, and a spot of color is nice this time of year. Birch sap season is over (we harvested 130 gallons), but green-up hasn’t happened yet. Probably 3 weeks away is my guess. We’re just starting to see grass showing if you peer closely at the brown mat of our “lawn”. The rabbits are turning brown, with silver tipping. The spinach and beet seeds are starting to sprout in the outdoor pots.

It’s starting to feel like spring.
